Direct answer

Run the operators you want bonded together, use Operations and Den conversations with their relationship effects in mind, then claim available Cross Training through Personnel → Bonds → Train All. Each chosen perk applies to both operators and is treated as permanent, so choose a shared benefit both builds can use.

Recommended order

Do these in order

  1. 01

Keep the intended pair together on missions where both can contribute safely.

  2. 02

Read Operation relationship effects before assigning operators; some can strengthen or weaken Bonds.

  3. 03

At the Den, open Personnel, switch to Bonds, and choose Train All when a Cross Training counter is available.

  4. 04

Pick a perk that benefits both operators, then confirm only after checking the numbers.

  5. 05

Before a maximum-Bond choice, verify both operators' current primary classes and record the offered options.

What Bonds change

Official guidance confirms that some Operations can strengthen or weaken relationships, and released game material describes Bonds as a route to combat synergies. Retail guides report that Bond thresholds grant Cross Training choices and Focus-related progression.

How to claim Cross Training

Use the Personnel terminal in the Den, open the Bonds tab, and choose Train All. The interface walks through eligible pairs. A Cross Training choice applies to both named operators; if the counter is zero, the pair has not earned another Bond-level reward yet.

Choose for the pair, not one operator

Prefer a bonus both builds trigger: critical chance for two crit-dependent attackers, Overwatch damage for a reaction-fire pair, movement for operators who reposition often, or Focus when both have valuable tree upgrades remaining. A large bonus used by only one half of the pair gives up much of Cross Training's value.

How to raise Bonds without forcing one squad

Shared missions are the clearest path, but Operations and Den systems also affect relationships. Rotate intentionally: keep a core pair together long enough to reach a threshold while using lower-risk assignments and passive roster systems to prevent the rest of the company from falling too far behind.

Maximum-Bond caution

Current community testing reports special level-eight options that appear related to the operators' primary classes, with disagreement about the exact selection rule. Treat those screenshots as useful evidence, not a complete official table. If the choice matters to the campaign, inspect the live tooltips and avoid changing class solely to chase an unverified outcome.
